Writing Spider is a hairy, 1-inch soft plastic spider bait made from floating plastic. Its small insect profile suits quiet creek edges, shaded pockets, and places where a spider might tumble from an overhanging limb.

Rather than making a commotion, let it settle and give it a light twitch. It is designed for surface-feeding trout, creek smallmouth, panfish, redbreast sunfish, and shallow-water largemouth bass. Each color comes in a six-pack.

Product Details

Brand: Creek Life Lure Co.

Model: Writing Spider.

Length: 1 inch.

Style: hairy soft plastic spider.

Material: floating plastic.

Quantity: 6 baits per pack.

Applications: surface drifts, subtle twitches, and lightly weighted presentations.

Color Options

Ruby Widow, Green Lynx Creeper, Mossy Wood Recluse, and Coal Tip Jumper.

Rigging Options

For surface fishing, Creek Life recommends a small-gauge, size 12 long-shank hook. Keep the rig light and check its flotation beside you before casting, since hook weight, line, and other attachments affect whether the complete rig stays on top.

A micro EWG hook offers a weedless rigging option around roots and brush. For a weighted presentation, Creek Life also recommends size 8–10 jig heads, including its Tungsten Bead Jig Heads. Added weight changes the presentation and can pull the floating plastic beneath the surface. Check hook fit and leave sufficient gap for a hookset.

Explore Creek Life Micro EWG Hooks for the weedless option.

How to Fish It

Pitch beside an overhang, undercut bank, or root tangle, then let the bait settle. Start with a dead-still pause before adding a small twitch. Short movements and longer pauses imitate an insect struggling at the surface without dragging it continuously across the water.

In moving water, drift it along a current edge and manage slack so the line does not pull the bait unnaturally. Try calm pockets and shade lines, particularly on warm days, after rain, or when fish are already feeding on top.

With a jig head, use short, controlled hops and pauses rather than expecting the rig to remain afloat. Match your tackle to the total rig weight.

Appalachian Inspiration

Creek Life's fictional Writing Spider tale imagines a spider that spins words instead of webs, reminding anglers to slow down and read the creek. The bait puts that idea into practice with a quiet insect presentation.

Care and Storage

Check the bait for tears after fish and replace it if it no longer sits securely on the hook. Store it in its original packaging, away from excessive heat and direct sunlight, and collect damaged plastics for proper disposal.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0833/5320/7003/files/20250714_193123_59e79c02-4300-4937-a844-4a6e8e3351eb.jpg?v=1793658996
