Favorite Fishing Defender Soleus Casting Reel 7.3:1

Low-Profile Soleus Reel in the Defender Design

The Favorite Fishing Defender Soleus Casting Reel combines a 7.3:1 gear ratio with 20 lb of drag in a low-profile design. Choose right- or left-hand retrieve to suit your casting setup.

An aluminum frame and carbon side plates form the reel's construction, while an internal centrifugal braking system provides casting adjustment. The Defender model features a red-and-blue finish.

Setting Up Your Reel

Choose your preferred retrieve side and mount the reel securely on a compatible casting rod. Match your line and complete presentation to the rod's ratings, and load the spool evenly without overfilling.

Adjust the centrifugal brakes according to the reel's instructions and begin with conservative settings and short practice casts. Use your thumb to control the spool as the presentation lands. Recheck the casting controls when changing lure weight or casting conditions.

Set the drag to suit your rod, line, and knots rather than fishing at the reel's maximum drag by default. Inspect your line regularly, especially after contact with cover.
