How to Fish It

• Lead the Fish — cast 4–6 feet in front of a moving fish and 2–3 feet to the side of its projected path; allow the fly to sink to the bottom before the fish arrives; a fly that lands on the fish or too close will spook it; a fly that lands too far away will be outside its visual field; the correct lead produces a natural-looking crustacean that appears to have landed quietly and is holding on the bottom
