Built Around Working a Jerkbait

The Kistler Jerkbait series uses shorter rod and handle lengths to suit the repeated rod movements that bring a jerkbait to life. Developed by Trey Kistler and his pro anglers, the series offers casting and spinning selections for anglers who want a technique-focused setup.

A soft tip is part of the design, helping the rod load during the cast and flex as a fish pulls against treble hooks. Whether you're casting to visible cover or targeting fish located with forward-facing sonar, the aim is a controlled presentation rather than simply working the bait harder.

Available Selections

  • Rod styles: Casting and Spinning.
  • Length options: 6'9" and 6'10".
  • Power selections: Medium and Lite Medium Heavy.
  • Short-handle design for working jerkbaits.
  • Soft-tip design.
  • Backed by a limited lifetime warranty, subject to the manufacturer's terms and conditions.

Check the available style, length, and power combination before ordering.

Setup and Fishing Guidance

Pair the casting model with a baitcasting reel or the spinning model with a spinning reel. Match line and total lure weight to the ratings marked on the selected rod. Adjust the drag for your line, knots, and treble hooks, leaving room for it to release line during a sudden surge.

Start with short rod twitches followed by a pause, allowing a little slack after each movement so the bait can respond. Change the cadence and pause length with water temperature, lure behavior, and fish response. Keep the rod tip clear of the water, boat, or bank during downward strokes.

If you're using forward-facing sonar, use it to judge the bait's position and fish response, then adjust your cast and retrieve. Maintain controlled pressure during the fight rather than repeatedly snapping the rod, and use a landing net instead of lifting a fish with the rod.

Care and Storage

Inspect guide rings and line for damage before fishing. Wipe the rod clean and let it dry before storage. Protect the blank from impacts, avoid high-sticking, and never use the rod to pull a snag free.
