Setup and Fishing Guidance
Pair it with a spinning reel and line suited to your jig, hook, and fishing conditions. Keep the combined weight of the jig head and soft bait within the ratings marked on the rod. Rig the minnow straight so it tracks cleanly before making your first cast.
When using forward-facing sonar, cast beyond the fish or target and let the jig settle to the intended depth. Use small rod movements and controlled reel turns to guide the bait rather than repeatedly snapping it away. Watch your line and maintain enough contact to recognize a bite without pulling the bait out of position.
Set the drag for the complete setup and use a controlled hookset appropriate to the hook and line. Net fish instead of lifting them with the rod. Inspect the guides and line before each trip, avoid high-sticking, and let the cork dry before storage.
