Strike King KVD Sexy Dawg Jr Walking Topwater

The Strike King KVD Sexy Dawg Jr offers a compact walk-the-dog presentation for bass feeding near the surface. Developed with input from Kevin VanDam, it moves side to side with rhythmic rod-tip twitches, giving you a smaller baitfish profile when larger surface baits aren't the right match.

Cast it across grass flats, along points, or toward open-water feeding activity. Early mornings and late evenings are good times to try a surface presentation, but let visible bait and fish activity guide where you throw it. Change the pace to work a promising spot slowly or cover a stretch of water with a continuous walking retrieve.

How to Fish It

Cast past your target when possible and let the lure settle. Point the rod tip toward the water and use short, repeated twitches while slowly reeling up slack. Leave a little slack after each twitch so the bait can swing to either side instead of being pulled straight forward.

Start with a steady walking rhythm, then add pauses near cover edges or where fish are showing. Over grass, keep the lure in open lanes and above submerged vegetation rather than dragging it through surface mats. Around schooling fish, cast toward the edge of the activity and walk the bait through the feeding area.

When a fish strikes, resist setting the hook at the splash alone. Wait until you feel the fish load the rod, then reel down and sweep with controlled pressure. If a fish misses, pause briefly before restarting the walk. Match your rod and line to the lure's package recommendations and the cover you're fishing.

Care and Storage

Check hook points, connections, and your knot before fishing and after contact with cover. Remove grass or debris that interferes with the action. Let the lure dry before storing it, and protect exposed hooks during transport.
