Tide Rite R954 Squid Skirt Cod Rig 18-Inch Leader

A Squid-Skirted Hook Leader for Your Cod Rig

The Tide Rite R954 Squid Skirt Cod Rig is a hand-tied, 18-inch leader with a single 4/0 Mustad hook dressed in a vinyl squid skirt. A loop at the opposite end lets you attach it to a hi-lo dropper loop rig.

Use it as the hook-leader component of your bottom-fishing setup rather than a complete hi-lo rig. The skirt adds a squid-style profile around the hook, while the loop provides a convenient attachment point.

How to Fish It

Attach the leader's loop to a suitable dropper loop on your hi-lo rig. Add bait if desired, keeping the hook point exposed and the skirt free to move. Choose a sinker for your complete rig that suits the depth and current without exceeding your rod's rating.

Lower the setup under control until it reaches bottom, then take up slack and keep the bait near the bottom as you drift. Use gentle lifts rather than constant hard jigging, and check for tangles and worn leader after each retrieve. Inspect the hook and attachment before sending the rig back down.
