How to Fish It

Choose the lightest head that lets you maintain control at your intended depth. Start lighter in shallow, calm water and move up in weight when depth, wind, or current makes the presentation difficult to track.

Thread a suitably sized soft plastic straight onto the hook, leaving the hook gap clear. For live bait, choose a bait size and hooking method that allow natural movement while keeping the point exposed.

Try short lifts and controlled falls near the bottom, a slow swimming retrieve, or a vertical presentation beneath the boat. Keep enough contact to notice a change in weight or line movement without pulling the jig away on every drop. Avoid forcing the exposed hook through thick cover.

Care and Storage

Remove bait residue after fishing, rinse the jig, and let it dry before storage. Inspect the hook point, line tie, and finish for damage. Store securely so the hook cannot catch loose tackle or hands, and replace damaged jigs before the next trip.
