How to Fish It

Cast beyond a vegetation edge or opening and bring the frog toward it with short rod-tip movements. Pause beside pockets and cover edges, then vary the pace to see how fish respond. Check the frog beside the boat or bank to find a cadence that suits its action.

Hendrix recommends 30–60 lb braided line on a casting rod for hollow-body frog fishing. Match the rod's lure rating to the 1/2 oz bait and choose line within that range to suit the cover. After a strike, wait until you feel the fish's weight before making a firm hookset and maintaining pressure away from vegetation. Inspect the hooks and line regularly, and drain collected water through the rear opening as needed.
